National Intern Day is held this year on Thursday, July 27, 2023. It’s a day created by career-matching company WayUp in 2017 to celebrate and bring awareness to the values of interns. Traditionally held on the last Thursday of July, it’s a sort of summertime thanksgiving dedicated to interns around the country. We think interns should be celebrated more than just 1 day a year, so we rounded up a few ideas to thank your interns this summer:
CONDUCT A VIRTUAL SCAVENGER HUNT, TRIVIA GAME, OR COOKING CLASS
Or in-person if you’re all back in the office! Just make sure your activity is inclusive: happy hours are fun, but not all interns are of drinking ago and some may choose to abstain from it completely.
SURPRISE THEM WITH AN UNEXPECTED EARLY RELEASE
At JB, we are awarded a quarterly “nap day” where we can reserve 90-minutes during the workday to relax and refresh with a nap. It reminds us of college!
INVITE THEM TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED TRAINING
A few of our clients are inviting interns to their workshops for all staff for topics including diversity & inclusion, communication skills, and career development.
HOLD A GRADUATION CEREMONY AT THE END OF THE INTERNSHIP
Complete the theme with superlatives for every intern to highlight what unique quality they brought to their internship. Create a physical or digital memento for them to keep forever to remember the internship by!

DID YOU KNOW…
JB’s Founder and CEO, Brad Karsh, started career-launching company JobBound in 2002 with one goal: help college students perfect their resumes and job interviews to land the internship and jobs of their dreams. When creating JB Training Solutions, Brad wrote the first training workshop for interns (and new hires) – now known as The Right Start: What They Don’t Teach You in College. Today, we conduct training for both interns and those who manager and mentor interns to help make the most of the internship experience.
