Delivering direct, honest, and sincere feedback is what helps move employees from good to great. But when a concern pops up with a direct report, how do you know what they actually need in that moment? Do they need more guidance because they lack knowledge or more encouragement because they lack motivation? This session cuts through the mystery of constructive feedback by helping managers recognize when a situation calls for direction, support, or a thoughtful mix of both. Participants learn how to spot the difference between skill gaps and motivation issues, respond confidently with timely spot coaching, and stay consistent through meaningful one-on-ones. They also receive a simple framework for structuring check-ins, turning feedback into ongoing developmental dialogue – not just another item on the agenda.

Participants leave this program with the ability to:

Determine if a situation requires direction, support, both, or neither

Pinpoint gaps and provide clearer direction when there are ‘skill’ issues

Identify purpose and secure commitment when there are ‘will’ issues

Leverage spot coaching to celebrate success and keep employees on the right track

Implement one-on-one meetings to prioritize projects and remove roadblocks

Utilize routine check-ins as development conversations that drive career growth
